Particle Measurement

Subject Division

The Subject Division addresses the characterization of dispersive systems, e.g. suspensions, emulsions, suspo-emulsions, powders, aerosols, foams and also cells in fermenters. The characterization properties extend far beyond particle size, covering properties such as form, polymorphism, colour and structure.
Main fields of interest:

  • Development of highly precise laboratory methods, sampling strategies
  • Increasing use of online methods for monitoring and control of production processes
  • Coupling of measured values with process models
  • Aerosol measurement techniques, e.g. for emission measurements, product characterization
  • Investigations in the field of occupational medicine and toxicology
  • Optimization and new development of reference methods, particularly for sub-micrometre and nano-sized particles
