3rd ICEPE 2013

3rd International Conference on Energy Process Engineering

Call for Keynotes

Chairmen
Prof. D. Stolten
Juelich Research Center, Germany

Prof. V. Scherer
Ruhr-Universität Bochum, Germany

The ICEPE 2013 focuses on concepts how the transition from current nuclear or fossil fuel based energy
to renewable energy systems can be realized in a limited time span. On the one hand the drivers for
renewable energy systems are multiple like increasingly expensive and eventually depleting oil/gas and
coal reserves, the nuclear crisis after the Fukushima accident and ever stronger environmental signals for
stricter CO2 reductions. On the other hand technical advancements paved the road to renewable energy in
the last decade. Today regional or country wide strategies for implementation of renewables representing
major shares of the energy portfolios can be devised.

This call seeks for keynote presentations setting the scope of the conference. the keynote lectures
will focus on technical solutions presenting coherent strategies from primary energy to consumption
allowing implementing major shares, e.g. 30% or above, of renewable energies into the regional,
countrywide or continental wide energy system by 2050 or earlier.

The 3rd ICEPE will be held from June 3 - 6 2013 in Frankfurt, Germany. It is supported by ProcessNet as a
joint initiative of DECHEMA (Society for Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, Germany) and the VDI
(Association of German Engineers). The conference seeks to present strategies from all over the world in
in a balanced way with strategies from different continents and/or climate regions.

Today's bottom-up approach of integrating fluctuating renewable energy into the existing grids shall be
complemented by top-down strategies using these devices in a systematic array. This array may comprise
devises such as photovoltaic cells, windmills, hydropower, biogas/biofuels or storage methods like batteries, hydrogen, air pressure storage as well as distribution methods like high-voltage power lines, DC-DC power lines, pipeline systems and so forth.

Reduction of CO2 emissions, security of energy supply, competitiveness of the industry and local emissions shall be regarded accordingly. The consideration of regional and societal specifics be it opportunities or constraints is appreciated.

Timeline and duties: deadline of abstracts February 12, 2012; a one page abstract is appreciated. The
authors will be notified of acceptance by March 18, 2012. a full paper is due in august 2012 as part of a
book to be published by Wiley VCH until april 2013. Keeping this timeline is essential since a hardbound
copy of the book will be part of the conference proceedings to be handed out at the conference.
