Thermodynamics

Subject Division

Thermodynamics is one of the most important basic disciplines in chemical and process engineering. It is concerned with the scientific fundamentals of material and energy conversion processes and thus closely related to investigation and description of the thermophysical properties of single-phase and composite systems.
Current fields of activity:

  • Property data of complex composite systems, particularly mixtures with polymers and ionic liquids and biomolecules
  • Thermodynamic aspects of new processes for efficient use of energy and resources, separation and product design, evaluation of the energy efficiency of processes
  • Development of novel measurement techniques for the analysis of complex systems or transient processes
  • Theoretical principles and didactic issues
