Subject Division Mechanical Liquid Separation

The Subject Division deals with change in liquid-phase dispersions. Primarily the focus is given to mechanical separation techniques, e.g. sedimentation by gravity or centrifugal force, filtration, classification, sorting and also separation processes in an electric or magnetic field. The Subject Division aims to investigate fundamental processes and their industrial application in plant, apparatus and machinery.
Fields of special interest:
  • Characterization of dispersed systems
  • Design, modeling, simulation and improvement of solid-liquid separation processes
  • Study of non-stationary processes, flocculation and prevention of particle generation
  • Separation of ultrafine particles
